About me

Me and my climbing dog

Hello - My name is Laurence (Loz) Reading. I am the owner and instructor of Mountain-Trips.

I have been rock climbing since the age of 10 when my brother and I used to catch a bus to the cliffs, try to remember what we had been taught and spend the day climbing and having fun. I still go rock climbing with my brother but we both know what we are doing now! I have been working in the outdoor industry for over 13 years and I now have a great deal of climbing and teaching experience. After 5 years of extensive training, I now hold the Mountain Instructor Award which both qualifies me to deliver instructor training courses and instruct all types of rock climbing including sea cliff climbing, multipitch and lead climbing. I am also a fully qualified teacher specailising in outdoor education.

I have a real passion for rock climbing and scrambling, I spend most of my time in the mountains and on cliffs of Britain and often have my holidays climbing abroad in places like Yosemite, Thailand, France and Greece. I have climbed to a high standard having completed many British climbs at 6c level and regularly climb at the Extreme (E1 and above) grade. Although I enjoy pushing my self I am equally happy climbing at all grades and absorbing the mountain experience and environment.

 teaching climbing

My professional outdoor career began during my university years(BSc Sport Science) where I took a year out to partake in a voluntary instructor scheme in the Cairngorms, Scotland. After returning to South Wales to complete my degree I worked in numerous outdoor centres in the UK and abroad and have ended up in the South East of England as a senior instructor in charge of staff training and quality assurance at Bowles Outdoor Centre. Here I teach a range of outdoor activities including climbing, abseiling, ropes courses, skiing, snowboarding, kayaking and canoeing, mountain biking, orienteering and team Building. I have worked with a variety number of clients ranging from the Army and Fire Brigade to special needs groups, school groups and corporate buisnesses.

As well as having lots of rock climbing and scrambling experience I also have a good range of ancillary knowledge about the outdoor environment. It is not uncommon to find us munching on some of the local flowers to spice up our packed lunches!

A Mountain-trips course is complete outdoor adventure experience.
