The Southern Sandstone Leaders Award (SSLA) is a local climbing qualification that allows the holder to lead groups on the local sandstone outcrops near Tunbridge Wells. Whether you are working for a school, scout group or outdoor centre, this training course will teach you the skills needed to lead groups on real rock.

Southern Sandstone Leaders Award - Training

Before attending the training course, you must have climbed at least 20 climbs on Southern Sandstone and be able to climb of the standard of 4a. After completing this one day training course you will need to observe a number of sessions with a qualified instructor as well as gaining further personal climbing experience..
This 2 day training course will cover a number of different aspects such as ropework, rescues, personal climbing and most importantly - how to teach and supervise groups. Maximum group size 6


Southern Sandstone Leaders Award - Assessment

Half day assessment for this award which is run at any of the venues near Tunbridge Wells. This half day assessment has a fixed price of £100 per person. The assessment will look at group management, personal climbing and ropework. You will need to provide your own group of 4- 12 people for this assessment.
